Installing a Dash Cam and Battery Pack in the Lexus NX450H

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of installing a dash camera and a battery pack in the Lexus NX450H, a hybrid/EV vehicle. This model allows you to plug it in and charge, giving you some electric kilometers. Let’s dive into the installation process!

Step 1: Preparing the Battery Pack

First up, we need to hide the battery pack. For this, we used the Thinkware IVOLT extra battery pack. We carefully cut out a bit of the styrofoam in the compartment and punctured a hole to fit it in.

When we lift up the compartment, you’ll see the car battery. We connected the constant power and ground directly to this battery. This is crucial for ensuring a reliable power source for the dash cam.

Step 2: Connecting to the Fuse Box

Next, we accessed the fuse box. Inside, we were able to tap into the ignition to ensure that the battery pack only charges when the ignition is turned on. We verified that six, 7.5 amp fuses in the box work for ignition, using a low-profile ATM fuse.

Once everything was connected, we put the cover back on, ensuring that the battery pack is hidden away neatly.

Step 3: Mounting the Rear Camera

Now it’s time to mount the rear camera. We ran the wires through the factory grommets, ensuring everything is hidden away for a clean look.

Step 4: Preparing to Mount the Front Camera

Before mounting the front dash camera, we need to clean and prep the surface. Using antiseptic wipes, we cleaned the area to remove any residue. This step is crucial for ensuring that the camera adheres properly.

Step 5: Installing the Front Camera

Now that the surface is clean, we can proceed to mount the front camera. We installed the Thinkware D214K in a spot that’s out of the driver’s view, just behind the rearview mirror. This placement ensures that it doesn’t distract the driver while still providing a clear view.
